Learning Transfer
Learning transfer refers to learners applying what they have learnt in training effectively and consistently in their jobs. Research shows that well planned and structured learning initiatives can increase learning transfer up to 90%; therefore, an investment in upskilling and reskilling employees is required to increase the bottom line.
At Performance Development Group, we do not “rest on our laurels,” expecting learners to figure things out for themselves and make the best of what they are taught. Instead, we design learning transfer activities for each training intervention and align each training with business objectives – hence our motto “training solutions adapted to your needs.”

Learner Readiness Activities
Performance Development Group is an Adult Learning training provider. Unlike pedagogy – the art and science of teaching children and youths, Adult Learning models assumes that a learner is self-directed, has a wealth of experience, and has previously been involved in formal education. Self-doubt, on the other hand, is one of the most significant barriers for adult learners – that feeling of “am I really cut out for this?” Prior to any training at Performance Development Group, learners participate in all or some of the following activities:
- Pre- course questionnaires
- Induction
- Recognition of prior learning assessments.
Learner motivation is at the heart of all of these activities. We promote lifelong learning, address anxiety, and help learners understand the value of learning through these activities. During induction, we assist participants in understanding how the skill in question may be applied in the workplace and how it will help them advance in their careers.
Adults bringing experience to the training room may be seen as a benefit because it will help them better understand new ideas. During learner readiness activities, we help learners regain their learning confidence and demonstrate how learning leads to real-world performance improvement.

Learning Transfer Activities
All of Performance Development Group‘s training interventions include practice and modeling. We identify specific outcomes that learners must achieve, provide meaningful training content, allow learners to practice, and allow participants to learn through simulation in each training delivery. Learning is also extended beyond prepared content, with learners encouraged to apply what they’ve learned in real-world situations. To increase learning transfer, our course leaders make sure to include some or all of the following activities:
- Case studies
- Use of simulation games
- Group discussions
- Project based learning
- Assessments
Aligning Learning to the Organization
The work environment itself is another factor that necessitates learning transfer. Opportunities to practice newly acquired skills in the workplace, as well as support from managers, mentors, and peers, are all important workplace determinants in the learning transfer process.
As a training provider of Learnerships – registered, structured, and experiential programmes, we work with line managers or team leaders to support and coach trainees as they learn new skills. This step is critical as it allows trainees to connect skills taught and skills needed on the job, allowing the newly acquired knowledge to be easily integrated into workplace processes and systems.
At Performance Development Group, we understand that training’s true measure of success lies in the substantial enhancement of job performance. We recognise the paramount importance of preparing for learning transfer activities, which is why we actively engage in every step of our training events. From inspiring learners to recognise the training’s value to delivering captivating and top-notch training sessions, we meticulously implement strategies to align the training with the organization’s needs. Our unwavering dedication ensures that training fulfills its core objective of facilitating effective learning transfer.
